October 31st is the last holiday on the Girl Scout calendar. Troops across the country celebrate the birthday of Juliette Gordon Low, the founder of the organization. How can troops safely celebrate this year?
It has been said over and over and over again...this is a time like no other in modern history. Across the country, some troops cannot meet in person while others can meet outdoors only. Some can meet indoors with a limited number of girls. Every Council has its own rules due to that fact that every place in the country is at a different level of cases of Coronavirus.
And depending on the case load in your area, that can change from meeting to meeting.
What is a leader to do?
First of all, if you are a new leader, don't worry. Kids love birthdays...they will enjoy this meeting! Juliette would not want you to get stressed over her birthday!
Typically, I share new ideas and past blog posts on what to do for your Founder's Day meeting. For Girl Scout Founder's Day 2020, I decided that my 2019 post would be updated to meet the needs of troops meeting either virtually or socially distant. Both require a bit more prep work for leaders, as girls need to have their own little "kits" so they are not on top of each other and sharing materials. This is necessary for virtual meetings since you are not physically together, and it is important if you are meeting in person, as girls should not be sharing anything at all.
