Are you looking for free Girl Scout Week 2023 resources? Here is a list to help you organize the third Girl Scout holiday of the year.

There are three Girl Scout holidays on the calendar. The first is Girl Scout Founder's Day, which takes place on October 31st. The second is World Thinking Day, which is February 22nd.

The third holiday is Girl Scout Week, which takes place around the same time each year in March. It always falls sometime during the week of March 12th, which is the day Juliette Gordon Low founded the Girl Scout movement.

When is Girl Scout Week 2023?

This year, Girl Scout Week 2023 takes place from March 12th through March 18th.

When a troop celebrates Girl Scout Week, most of the activities are individual. The exception to that is when a girl goes to her place of worship to celebrate to participate in the service. This year, those dates are:

Girl Scout Jummah (Muslim)—Friday, March 17, 2023

Even though many of us are celebrating virtually, your troop can celebrate Girl Scout Week 2021.

One year ago, Girl Scout Week was celebrated in troops across the country just like it always was. Now, in March 2021, it is a bit different.

When is Girl Scout Week 2021?

Girl Scout Sunday (Christian)—Sunday, March 7, 2021

Girl Scout Jummah (Muslim)—Friday, March 12, 2021
Girl Scout Sabbath/Shabbat (Jewish) Friday/Saturday, March 12–13, 2021

Girl Scout Week is an Optional Activity

This year, Girl Scout Week 2021 takes place from March 7th through March 13th.

When a troop celebrates Girl Scout Week, most of the activities are individual. The exception to that is when a girl goes to her place of worship to celebrate to participate in the service. This year, those dates are:

Girl Scout Sunday (Christian)—Sunday, March 7, 2021
Girl Scout Jummah (Muslim)—Friday, March 12, 2021
Girl Scout Sabbath/Shabbat (Jewish) Friday/Saturday, March 12–13, 2021

While it is fun for your girls to celebrate Girl Scout Week, it is an optional activity and always has been. This is because this is an individual thing to do not, not a troop activity led by a leader. The girls in your troop need family support in order to accomplish the daily activity, especially when they are younger.

If a girl opts out of doing this, no need for you to stress. I had girls not participate and they did not get their Girl Scout Week patch from our Council. No lost sleep here.

Every year around this time, I do research to find you the latest activities that the GSUSA and Councils across the country have put out. This year, there is nothing new, with the exception of the the Girl Scouts Overseas, who have put together a virtual program that you can pay for.

It seems like you just finished celebrating World Thinking Day...because you did! Even though many of you are very busy with cookie season, there is another Girl Scout holiday that is just around the corner. It is called Girl Scout Week.

What is Girl Scout Week?

In a nutshell, Girl Scout Week celebrates the founding of the Girl Scouts. Juliette Gordon Low registered the first 18 girls into what would become the nationwide organization we are participating in today. Starting with Girl Scout Sunday and ending with Girl Scout Sabbath on a Saturday, and it always includes Girl Scouts’ birthday, March 12. Many synagogues and churches dedicate a part of their service during this weekend to highlight the girls and give them recognition.

When my troop was younger, we always celebrated this week by doing activities as a troop and optionally, at home. Our Service Unit would have a list of activities for the girls to do. If they did them and I handed in the sheet, complete with parent signature, the girl would receive a fun patch for her vest or sash.

This year, Girl Scout Week 2020 is from Sunday March 8th-Saturday March 14th.

10 Free Leader Resources for Girl Scout Week 2019

Girl Scout Week 2019 Resources

One thing new leaders need to remember is that these resources are a guide. Always do what works for your troop and for you. You can combine different activities from these lists or make up your own. You can also check your Council website to see if there are any activities your troop can participate in.

If you are having the girls in your troop do activities on their own, please do not stress of get upset if a child does not do this outside of meeting activity. It is not personal...kindergarten and first graders have no control over what their parents will or will not do with them or for them.

Girl Scouts of the Green and White Mountains have a day by day list of tasks girls can do.

Girl Scouts of Southern Arizona has their own list of things that troops can do on their own or individually.

Celebrate Girl Scout Week-7 Days of Awesome is right from the GSUSA website.

Girl Scouts of Northwest Texas also has a list of things for girls to do.

Girl Scouts of Rhode Island have a checklist of activities from which to choose.

Girl Scouts of West Central Florida have an inclusive religious service that can be used for all faiths.

Girl Scout Troop 1584  Do not pay attention to the date...this link is to provide you with an idea of what you can make for your girls if you choose to. My suggestion is to give 2-3 options for each day.

5 Simple Activities Again, pay no attention to the date. This is a streamlined list that you can give to your girls.

Girl Scouts of Silver Sage have a three page document with tons of activity choices. Daisy Scouts need to complete 1 activity each for Discover, Connect and Take Action, plus 1 more from your choice of categories.

Daisy Girl Scout Activities for Girl Scout Week 2016

Now that Founder's Day is over, it is time to look forward to the next scouting holiday-Girl Scout Week. On March 12, 1912, Juliette Gordon Low founded the Girl Scouts of the USA. It is during this week that scouts of all levels commit to some kind of service activity to show their pride.

The service part involves simple activities to make the world a better place. There is no need to reinvent the wheel or to make yourself crazy trying to create something new. Most of you have just come off cookie season or at the tail end of it.

For my troop, Girl Scout Week activities have always been optional. Our Service Unit hosts a roller skating activity for all scouts during this week. Little girls love to see the older ones hang out at the same venue. If the girls in my troop want to earn a fun patch, they can participate by doing activities that either I gave them or the service unit. For example, our service unit asked so we made posters promoting Girl Scouts during our meeting and they were hung around the schools the girls attended. That counted towards one of the activities on the checklist. Others were done on their own.

If the girls handed the signed checklist in on time-great! They earned the patch. If not, they did not get one. I did not chase parents down for this and you should not either. Parents have to own this since the Girl Scout Week activities are done independently. If they are not committed to helping their daughter int heir free time, there is nothing you can do about it.

Here are some resources for you to use with your Daisy Scouts for Girl Scout Week 2016. Ignore the dates at the top-they are not relevant. Also, I permitted my girls to do one activity from each list, but it did not have to be on the day it specified. As long as one was completed, it did not matter if it matched the date.

Sometimes it is nice to take a break from your regular meetings and do something different that is Girl Scout related. 

Girl Scout Week is the perfect opportunity to do just that.  Whether you are doing a community service project, planning a field trip or doing a special Girl Scout craft to honor this special week, take the time to plan and enjoy it.

If your girls want to earn a fun patch for this, be sure to order yours ahead, as they will be hard to find once the holiday is over!  Here are some more ideas for your girls to do earn your patch.

It's Time to Start Planning Girl Scout Week 2014!

The second official Girl Scout holiday is fast approaching, and a leader who is organized will start planning for it in advance so it does not go by unnoticed.

Although the official start date varies year to year, Girl Scout Week always falls sometime during March 12th.

Why is that?

Because March 12th is the anniversary of the founding of the Girl Scouts of the USA. Juliette Gordon Low planted the roots on this day in 1912, and so it is an important date for all levels of scouts.

The celebration does not have to be big for Daisy Scouts, but it should be recognized.  It is an opportunity to earn a fun patch for the back of the vest, as well as do a community service project.

In this article, I have listed a ton of resources for leaders of all levels to use. Daisy Scouts can do the chart of activities or a simple project to mark the anniversary of this wonderful organization.
